IF...Tallinn 2011 and 6th Design Night festival kicked off

From Friday 16th of September until the end of next week, September 16-25, Tallinn is overtaken by innovative design fans who are taking part in the European innovation festival IF... and Design Night Festival. Over the past two years, six cities have organized an Innovation Festival: Barcelona, Milan, Kortrijk, Lisbon, Vilnius and Tallinn. The festivals all focus on themes of innovation, (user-friendly) design, social inclusion, mobility, environmental awareness and the influence of technology on everyday life. This year’s festival is part of the programme of the European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 and draws attention to people and their needs. IF… Tallinn kicked off with the opening of the innovation and design exhibition Novelty at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design. The festival was opened by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Estonia, Mr Rein Lang.

“The aim of the festival is to make Estonian design visible and to increase people’s knowledge about design. At the same time, the festival also offers a great opportunity for design entrepreneurs to network and to introduce new products and services. For both, the design fans and the ones who have very little in common with design, several conferences with international lecturers, workshops and international exhibitions are organised to acquaint the audience with the design achievements from other countries,“ explains the main organiser of the festival, Ilona Gurjanova. “It is my pleasure to see that the festival brings to Tallinn visitors both from neighbour countries as well as from locations farther away. This proves again that Estonian design has a lot to showcase to others."
